Welcome to my personal website. I am an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. In this capacity, I am also a Fellow of FEB Research Institute (FEBRI), a Member of the University Council, Chair of the Dutch Development Economics Network, an Invited Researcher of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) and an Affiliate of the Collaborative for Econometrics and Integrated Development Studies (CEIDS).
My field of research is development economics, and most of my work is linked to the following topics:
- How psychological mechanisms shape economic impacts of development interventions
- Impacts of child sponsorship, youth employability and peace dialogue programs
- Drivers and effects of technology adoption in food value chains
For my research, I am collaborating with societal organisations in low or lower-middle income countries. I use (quasi) experimental methods to learn about the impact of their development interventions.
I have conducted projects in Indonesia, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, and am currently working on projects in the Philippines, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Mozambique.
Besides, I am a board member of Foundation EO Metterdaad, and a board member of the Mr. G. Groen van Prinsterer Foundation, the think tank of the ChristenUnie.
